The Fitting Room presenter Paddy Smyth says disabled people still face discrimination at work

The Fitting Room presenter Paddy Smyth said Irish people with disabilities are still discriminated against at work.

The 30-year-old, who has cerebral palsy, admitted things haven’t always been easy for him as regards his career.

Paddy told the Irish Mirror: “Employers are uncertain of people with disabilities, especially physical ones.

“I feel like employers believe they can’t discipline people with disabilities in the same way and they are less than the rest of the staff because of their appearance or if they walk differently.

“People are never going to say it but there are issues over trust, making a deadline for example.

“People are never going to say they won’t hire you because you are disabled, but I have felt that.

“It has given me a determination to prove people wrong and that is what pushed me on.

Paddy’s role on the RTE show is to meet with the participants who are hoping the designers and stylists will help solve their clothing conundrums.

He said: “They also speak to me about the adversity they have faced in their lives.

"They have all overcome something, but the fashion world has forgotten about them.”
