The Summer I Turned Pretty has consumed our summer. All anyone can talk about is Belly Conklin (Lola Tung) choosing between Conrad Fisher (Christopher Briney) and Jeremiah Fisher (Gavin Casalengo). But the penultimate episode of the series threw us all for a loop.
**Spoilers for The Summer I Turned Pretty lie ahead**
Conrad and Jeremiah were not speaking to each other. To clarify, Jeremiah was not speaking to Conrad because he was mad that his brother got angry about him cheating on his fiancé and then taking the opportunity to tell Belly that he (Conrad) still had feelings for her. So it was a bit of a mess but the brothers were, at best, at odds with each other.
This is where we find them when the two are finally forced to be in the same space together. Conrad is visiting his mother’s grave and when Jeremiah shows up, the two have a heart to heart that they’ve been putting off. One thing that has clearly weighed on Conrad is the fact that a month after he and Belly broke up years prior, Jeremiah was trying to woo her. Meaning that all the anger that Jeremiah had, Conrad also felt but kept to himself, unlike his little brother.
Their heart to heart results in Jeremiah realizing that his love for Belly isn’t necessarily healthy (probably why he actually cheated on her) and the two come to an understanding with each other. Meaning Jeremiah is fine with Conrad trying to win Belly back for himself.
Now, in the world of this show, that is a great swoon-worthy moment. But in reality, it is absolutely unhinged of these two brothers to be okay with going back and forth with one woman but what do I know, I’m just the sister of two brothers.
At least Jeremiah won’t be a baby about it?

I am far from Jeremiah’s fan in every sense of the word but his response to Conrad does show growth. Should he also apologize to Belly? Absolutely. He acted like a child and justified his own infidelity by saying he was upset about Belly and Conrad staying in the same house at Christmas. Yes, they didn’t tell him they both were at the house in Cousins but he also is a petulant child who responded to learning this information by having sex with someone else!
What I find unhinged about this interaction between the two is that Conrad does get to call out Jeremiah. He says that Belly isn’t a thing he can control or lay a claim to but they have this heart to heart about Conrad going to win her over without either of them really considering Belly’s feelings. She’s been in Paris for a while, she might have moved on from the Fisher boys. We, as the audience, know that’s exactly what happened but Conrad doesn’t!
I am glad that Belly Conklin has had a relationship with someone that doesn’t have the last name Fisher but it is going to be interesting when Conrad inevitably rolls up to her apartment in Paris and is met with the concept of him having to fight for her affection against someone who is not his own flesh and blood.
