Top fish and chip shops in the North East have been recognised by Good Food Awards.
The which were founded in 2002, now have a separate category to honour the traditional British chippy and highlight the best of the best when it comes to the Friday night favourite fish supper.
Chippies are ranked - of course - for their fish and chips , as well as how they compare to competitors and how positive feedback is from customers. Value for money is taken into consideration too, while each business must have top marks for hygiene to be considered.
Fish and chip takeaways in Newcastle , North Shields , Alnwick and Gateshead all won awards, as did five branches of Downeys across Sunderland and County Durham.
Of 10,500 fish and chip shops around the county, 200 won.
