The Riyadh Philosophy Conference was launched Wednesday at King Fahd National Library in Riyadh under the theme "Unpredictability."
The three-day event is organized by the Ministry of Culture’s Saudi Literature, Publishing and Translation Commission. It brings together an elite group of thinkers and philosophers from Saudi Arabia and abroad.
In his opening remarks, the Commission's CEO Dr. Mohammed Hasan Alwan said that Saudi Arabia is among the most changing countries around the world, with a pace of change unmatched by almost any other country, which will have various philosophical, intellectual and cultural implications.
Prestigious thinkers and institutions from the region and around the world are taking part to discuss contemporary philosophical issues under the theme of “unpredictability” in an effort to deepen the presence and role of philosophy within the local community and its application in the cultural and intellectual spheres as the Kingdom undergoes rapid change on several levels. The attendees include experts in philosophy and its theories and those with an interest in its modern-day applications worldwide.
The event targets an audience with diverse interests, experiences, and academic and professional backgrounds.
The conference features interactive installations that bring philosophy to life, and a Children’s Philosophical Space to accommodate children and families.
