Calling all book lovers, we’re holding a one day free children’s literature festival on 29 August 2015 in a big teepee in Kings Cross, London. Tickets are free and you’re invited (but make sure you book in advance)

Here’s the lowdown on who’s coming:

First up at 11am is Paul Stickland, who invites you to come and draw with Dinosaur Roar! This event is suitable for everyone over three years old and drawing materials will be provided. If you want a bit of practice check out How to draw Dinosaur Roar.

Next up at 12.15pm we have farmyard fun with Emer Stamp. Join the author and illustrator of The Unbelievable Top Secret Diary of Pig and The Super Amazing Adventures of Me, Pig, for an event full of farmyard fun and drawing frolics. Learn more about the Evil Chickens, Duck, and of course, the unforgettable Pig himself. Best for over fives.

After a quick lunch we have the dynamic duo Philip Reeve and Sarah McIntyre taking us on a magic journey with their new book Pugs of the Frozen North at 1.30. You’ll be joined by brave sled-racers, noodle-eating yetis and 66 pugs in arran knits. Learn how to defeat a hungry Kraken, discover the secrets of the Fifty Different Kinds of Snow and draw along with Sarah and Philip. It might be August but we’re going to get chilly! Best for over fives.

The afternoon takes on a certain darkness at 2:45pm when we meet the evil genius of teen fiction Michael Grant: the author of the wildly scary Gone dystopia series, BZRK and, most lately, The Messenger of Fear. He’s over from the US to talk to our children’s books website co-editor Emily Drabble about his books, teen horror and how he manages to write so much, so creepy – and answer your questions of course. Advised for over 10s as Michael is really quite scary.

Then at 4.15pm we invite you to find your inner poet with CLPE poetry award-winning Joseph Coelho in a fun poetry workshop for over eights. Find out tips and tricks for writing great poems and create your very own poetic world, will it be a world of chocolate? A world of music? Or a world of glass where you can polish your good days and smash your bad days?

How to book your free tickets

This is a Guardian membership live event and all the details of how to book tickets are here. You have to be a Guardian member to book tickets but over 18s can join as a friend for free here. Each event lasts for 45 minutes and you can book one or all of them.

Our events are part of a wider festival Curious? Powered by the Knowledge Quarter and there’s loads more going on over the bank holiday weekend.

We can’t wait to see you there!
