The firm tasked with making sure Liverpool FC's European champions are kept safe

The firm set to provide security for Liverpool FC's Champions League stars at its new state-of-the-art training ground has been announced, with the new Kirkby facility expected to open its doors next year.

Nationwide Management Services will run operations at the Kirkby Liverpool FC Training Academy once it opens its doors next year.

The award was made following a tender process which saw building and civil engineer firm McLaughlin and Harvey select Nationwide to provide the services.

LFC stated that it was important to use a local provider and that the club would encourage any providers and sub-contractors to actively get involved with projects in Kirkby, for the benefit of the community.

James Battle, development director of Nationwide said: “I am delighted to be awarded this on behalf of Nationwide, we have demonstrated not only value for money but professionalism in our approach. The new win is the result of nine months’ work with key stakeholders and we will provide first class security services on site for two years".

According to the club, the development at the academy site will see the first-team and youth football operations come together at a combined training facility for the first time in LFC history.

The announcement comes after the Reds' historic sixth Champions League win, beating Tottenham Hotspur in the final in Madrid on Saturday.

"The key services we will provide will include gate men, traffic banksmen, night offices, cleaning services and CCTV in a 24hr operation. We have a long standing relationship with McLaughlin and Harvey and when we were awarded the contract we were honoured to secure one of their flagship projects in the region," Mr Battle said.

Operating since 2015, Nationwide says it is "quickly becoming a provider of choice for a full range of security services in the Liverpool City region and beyond".
