With the Gardaí set to ramp up patrols and checkpoints on St Patrick's Day, there is a high possiblity of Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) or fines being handed out.
Covid-19 regulations set out just what officers can issue these for.
They range from not wearing a face covering all the way up to house parties - which is one of the targets for Gardaí on the national holiday.
Here's what will happen if you break any of the regulations on St Patrick's Day.
You can get a €500 fine for
- Organising a house party or other relevant events/gatherings.
- Travelling from your home to an airport to leave the State, without a reasonable excuse.
You can get a €150 fine for
- Attending a house party
You can get a €100 fine for
- Travelling without a reasonable excuse
- Travelling into Ireland without a reasonable excuse
You can get a €80 fine for
- Not wearing a face covering on public transport
- Remaining off public transport without a face covering. This refers to someone failing to comply with a direction from the relevant person (e.g. bus driver) to remain off public transport without a face covering.
- Not getting off public transport when asked to do so by the relevant person for not wearing a face covering.
- Not wearing a face covering in certain premises. 'Certain premises' includes shops, shopping centres, libraries, cinemas, theatres, concert halls, bingo halls, museums, nail salons, hairdressers, tattoo and piercing studios, travel agents, laundries, dry cleaners, bookmakers, train stations and bus stations.
- Not wearing a face covering by a worker in a relevant premises. This refers to the obligation for workers in shops to wear face coverings.
Thousands of gardai are set to hit roads across the country today as a number of anti-lockdown protests are expected.
Officers are promising to clamp down on the current Covid-19 rules that ban non-essential travel of more than 5km from home.
And Taoiseach Micheál Martin has made a heartfelt plea for people to stay at home this St Patrick’s Day.
The Fianna Fail has issued a formal statement to the nation asking people not to be out celebrating for our national day this year.
Mr Martin is calling on everyone to “make a special effort to mark the day in a Covid safe manner”.
