The filthy state these houses were left in for cleaners

When you carry out a spot of cleaning, you might consider running the hoover around, wiping the surfaces and putting away the dirty dishes.

But, for this team of "hygiene machines" it's a lot more than just pottering about.

The cleaners at Victoria's Cleaning Services have seen it all - from urine and faeces, to mold, dirt and even rats, mice and snakes.

They steam-clean stained mattresses, wash down nicotine stained walls and get on their hands and knees to scrub down thick layers of grease.

The Porthcawl-based company was started by mother-of-two Victoria Trythall around two years ago.

The 32-year-old, who's originally from Mountain Ash, now employs around 16 members of staff and has more than 90 regular customers - including office and domestic jobs, as well as caravan, open house and Airbnb cleans.

The company also carry out a number of end of tenancy cleans - which sees them completely transforming and deep cleaning lived-in rental properties before new tenants move in.

"End of tenancy basically means a landlords gets me in to clean a property and make it look like new ready for the next tenant to move in," Victoria explained.

And some of the transformations are just incredible.

Slide right to see the before and after transformations:

A number of images and videos posted to the companies Facebook page, show how dirty, dusty and run-down properties are left looking like they have been completely gutted and renovated.

Sparkling white walls are left looking like they've had a new coat of paint, while kitchen and bathroom units look like they've just been shipped from the warehouse.

But, the reality is - that these transformations are actually down to some good old-fashioned elbow grease and some hardcore cleaning techniques.

And for this team of extreme cleaners, the dirtier the houses are - the better.

"I just can't help it - the worse they are the better," explained Victoria.

"I hate going into a property when it's absolutely gleaming.

"I like a challenge and I love seeing the customers' faces afterwards."

"Some houses you can go in and not even be able to see the floor," Victoria explains.

"You've got to clean, before you can clean and then do it all over again."

Victoria tells us how she's had to clean moldy pans and grease stuck to tiles and on top of cupboards, while some walls have been so nicotine stained, that after cleaning them - the left over water has turned yellow.

"The smells can be terrible - like stale pee, smoke in the walls and the carpets and poo as well.

"We've been in houses, where there's been dollops of poo everywhere - all stuck under the plinths of the doors," Victoria said.

It's not just human faeces - the team have also come face to face with their fair share of animal droppings.

"Rat droppings, dog poo - we've had the works," she explained.

"There was one house where we found snake skin everywhere - they had ten snakes, and the skin was everywhere."

Victoria also claims she's had to 'run out of a few houses because of rats' and has been in properties which have been infested by mice.

"When we turn up for a job we don't know what we could be letting ourselves in for.

"We don't know what that house is going to be like before we go in there.

"That's why we always get the suits on - full paper suits with masks, you've got to for those types of jobs."

Victoria and her team currently undertake around three to four end of tenancy cleans each week, and has so far completed more than 200 over the past two years.

And they're not for the faint hearted, as Victoria describes how her team often arm themselves with tools, blades, steamers and even tooth-brushes to cut through even the toughest coatings of dirt, grime and grease.

"We've got every tool you can think of," Victoria said.

"We've got a very powerful steamer that shoots in to any gaps and pushes all the dirt out. And for tougher parts we use thinner or longer blades, and toothbrushes for some things and other brushes for stuff like grout."

"If you're just standing there scrubbing it, you're just wasting time and customers money," Victoria added.

"You've got to just get it off as fast as you can - otherwise, they'll be paying through the roof."

"People just think cleaning is cleaning.

"They don't appreciate how hard it is.

"The quickest end of tenancy house we've done has been around seven hours and the longest is 24 hours.

"But, your average three-bedroom clean takes around eight or nine hours.

"Some people ask 'why will it take that long? It's not dirty.'

"And it might not look dirty, but a landlord could come in there and not give the tenants their bond back if they see anything."

How do they get the houses so clean?

"Firstly, I go in to do a quote and see how long I'm going to be there," Victoria explained.

"So, I check all the walls, tiles and tops of the cupboards to see if there's any grease - because, that's the longest part.

"And then I'll know then - oh, that will take a good hour or two hours."

"We check all the windows and the little grooves in the frames - we've got to use steamers on them," she added.

"We do outside the house and the windows outside, the skirting boards, walls, door frames, the tops of doors, inside cupboards, tops of cupboards, lights switchings - everything.

"Absolutely everything gets done."

"Obviously, I usually do the cleaner places first and the dirtier jobs last," Victoria explained.

"But, it's so tiring.

"It can be exhausting - like, come a Thursday or Friday you just want to relax, but you can't and you've got to just get on with it."

"My own house is such a mess - I'm so untidy now," she added.

"It's like a builders work is never done in their own house.

"I get home and I think - no way, I'm not doing this now.

"So, I set a day on a weekend to clean it."

But, despite the dirt, the mess and the extremely long hours, Victoria says her job is rewarding.

She explained how some customers can get quite emotional when they see the transformations - and it's those reactions that make all the dirty work worth it.

"We've had people crying and there was even one person who we thought was going to have a heart attack," she joked.

"You could have been cleaning all day and be really tired, but when you see people like that, it makes you feel like - right on to the next one!

"It makes you feel upbeat again."
