This was the state of a Tesco van used for home deliveries around south Wales.
The worrying pictures of the van's fridge, freezer and spare compartment were shared by an employee at the supermarket chain.
The staff member, who did not want to be named, claimed delivery vans are cleaned once a week by an external company.
They also described a spare department in the van used for extra dry goods as "filthy".
Tesco said they have carried out an "immediate" deep clean of all delivery vans at the store.
The Tesco worker said: "The vans just get sprayed once a week. They don't touch the spare compartment, it's absolutely filthy.
"Someone should be going in there with a bucket and cloth and washing it down. We do deliver a fair bit of fruit and veg and there's bread that wouldn't be sealed.
"I just think it's a bit minging and Tesco isn't doing anything about it."
The employee said concerns about the cleanliness of vans had been raised with managers.
They said: "It's not good enough. They say it's fine but it's not fine, it's mouldy. It looks like mould, black mould.
"It's ugly. I wouldn't say I'm OCD at all but how hard is it to keep them clean.
"I know one driver is really good and will go after himself with wet wipes to clean it down himself but so many other drivers can't be bothered.
"It's not a recent thing."
A spokesman for Tesco said: "We’re really sorry to see these pictures. We take great care with the food we deliver to our customers and have strict procedures in place to ensure our vans are thoroughly and regularly cleaned.
"We’re investigating why these weren’t followed in this case, and have carried out an immediate deep clean of all delivery vans at this store."
