The FIFA ruling that could spoil Arsenal and Raul Sanllehi's plan for Santi Cazorla

Arsenal and Raul Sanllehi are exploring options to bring Santi Cazorla back to the Emirates Stadium.

Although, football.london understands it is early to even be sure in what capacity that might be, but the club's Head of football has a connection with the Spain international's agent so a plan is due to be discussed at the end of the season once schedules for both Arsenal and Villarreal are clear.

It may be no more than an invitation for him to visit a game whilst a pre-season friendly against the La Liga outfit could also be an option.

And the 35-year-old has publicly spoken of his desire to pull on the red shirt one last time.

"I don't know if it's possible or not, but I want to play one more game for Arsenal before I retire. It was a deep regret that I could never have a proper goodbye," he told Goal.

"Arsenal was the biggest club I ever played for. I'm proud that I was an Arsenal player. I'm especially grateful for Arsenal fans who supported me even after I left the club.

"I wish I can be part of the Gunners family in the future again."

However, it's because of Cazorla's dream to play for the Gunners one last time which would almost certainly rule out the prospect of arranging a game in the Emirates Cup..

This is because the FIFA rules stipulate that this cannot happen.

As Gunners legend Thierry Henry found out in the summer of 2011.

"I wanted to do it and I'm sure the fans would have wanted to see it, but we were told at half-time it was not possible," Henry said. "Stupid rules."

As a result, arranging a friendly whilst Cazorla is still contracted to Villarreal would be complex.

With that said, there is a will from Arsenal to find some way for the Emirates Stadium to wish the Spaniard a fond farewell.

Henry did end up wearing the red and white of Arsenal once last time before retiring as he rejoined the Gunners on a short-term loan deal during the 2011/12 season, could history repeat itself?
