The FIFA decision that delays Hakim Ziyech deal but boosts Chelsea's Gianluigi Donnarumma hopes

Changes to the way the summer transfer window operates will come into effect at the end of this season.

There was uncertainty over how the window would work following the suspension of most domestic leagues around the world due to the coronavirus pandemic.

However, in a statement released by FIFA on Tuesday confirmed that the summer transfer window will open upon the conclusion of the season.

"With regard to transfer windows, again, it is necessary to adjust the normal regulatory position to the new factual circumstances,” read the statement.

The latest on Chelsea's out of contract stars

"Accordingly, FIFA will be flexible and will allow the relevant transfer windows to be moved so they fall between the end of the old season and the start of the new season.”

Chelsea moved quickly to confirm the signing of Ajax forward Hakim Ziyech ahead of the window, but the delay in finishing the season now means that the Morocco international may have to wait a bit longer to officially become a Chelsea player.

However, the Blues could use the decision to their advantage, with AC Milan goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma’s contract running out at the end of next season.

The delay in the window opening may favour the buying side in the case of the player’s contract running down due to the less amount of times clubs would have to sort the player’s contract after the window closes.

It is suggested that the goalkeeper could push for a move away from San Siro this summer, with Chelsea on the lookout for a successor to Kepa Arrizabalaga.

AC Milan look set to miss out on a place in the Champions League, which is something that the Blues will hope that they’ll be able to offer next season.

The change in the window could force Milan’s hand to selling the Italian, with Chelsea possibly being able to get him in a cut-price deal.
