Deliveroo drivers have teamed up with food charity The Felix Project to help feed Londoners in need.

The food delivery firm is providing staff and vans to transport surplus food from Co-op stores across London six days a week.

The deliveries end up at the project which brings food to around 1,000 charities and schools in the capital and which was struggling to get supplies because of the shortage of hauliers. Deliveroo has also paid for a Felix Project van for two years to deliver one million meals to families in need.

It also arranged for its supplier Sheringhams to bring fruit and vegetables to the project kitchen, which was made possible by the donations of Evening Standard readers and £1 million from the Standard’s Dispossessed Fund.

The Felix Project founder Justin Byam Shaw said: “Most people give us money and that’s great, but if you’re a company like Deliveroo you can do so much more for us. You can give us your surplus and we can use their drivers.”

Deliveroo boss Will Shu said he was delighted to back the “awesome” project. “We were introduced early on and just thought the mission was incredible,” he said.
