One of those was being driven by a motorist who only had a provisional licence.

He was also found to be in possession of a terrifying machete, as well as cannabis.

Posting on the GMP Heatons and Reddish page, officers said: "On Wednesday 4th August and following numerous reports from residents regarding speeding and anti-social use of vehicles around Greg Street, Reddish and the surrounding area, your Heatons and Reddish Neighbourhood Team led by PC Moghadam and assisted by our Transport and Road Policing Unit colleagues, conducted an operation in order to provide a visible presence and pro-active response, in order to address the issues raised.

"A number of Traffic Offence Reports were issued for a variety of offences including failure to wear seat belts.

"Six vehicles were seized as a result of having no insurance and one of these drivers had only a provisional licence, without the required licence holder accompanying him.

"The same driver was also was in possession of cannabis and a machete so naturally we managed to find him some temporary accommodation at the police station.

"As is the case with our colleagues across the country, GMP is exceptionally busy at the moment but as a Neighbourhood Team, we do continue to do our best to address and deal with the issues you raise, taking into account many competing demands, whenever we are able to do so."
