The Fault in Our Stars by John Green – review

John Green has created a bittersweet plot; one which contains the lives of two cancer-ridden victims whose paths cross when least expected.

Set in modern day Indianapolis, America, the story concerns the lives of two main characters - Hazel (sixteen) and Augustus (seventeen) - who come across one another when attending their local cancer support group. Each with their own unfortunate illness, the pair start to encounter the hardships and wonders of love, whilst they battle against cancer. It is the inspiring and thoughtful elements of their battles which make you value and question your life at present.

With a raw and comical edge, we begin to see Hazel's seemingly dreary and depressing life transforming for the better. Told boldly and intelligently through the insightful eyes of Hazel herself, this teenage fictional story will make you cry, make you laugh, and surely warm your heart.
