The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - review

I read this book on a recommendation from my friend and am so glad that I did. I found myself hooked on the story of Hazel Grace Lancaster; a 16 year old girl with thyroid in her lungs.

Hazel hardly leaves the house, reads the same book over and over and spends most of her time thinking about death, so it's no wonder her parent call her depressed.

As a sixteen year old she has no boyfriend and hardly any friends. She was withdrawn from school three years ago and rarely makes contact with the outside world. Wherever she goes she is forced to lug around with her an oxygen tank strapped to her nose, essential to her breathing.

As an attempt to get her 'un-depressed' her parents send Hazel to a 'cancer kid' support group where they discuss their illnesses and feelings. Hazel is desperate not to go, but she has no choice.

When seventeen year old Augustus turns up at the support group Hazel immediately falls for him, being the hot guy that he is. He has had osteosarcoma - though not any more. Hazel and Augustus become very close and the two of them embark on their lives together, but when Hazel gets more ill, will she survive? And will Gus tell Hazel his secret?

Once I picked up the book I couldn't put it down. I read non stop till I'd finished it.
