The classic American diner has been immortalised in pop culture and has reached far and wide, even making it to the shores of the Land of Smiles. While its menu staples like burgers and milkshakes aren't really hard to find here in Bangkok, Fats and Angry also leans heavily into the sights and sounds of a 50s era diner. I can't really say whether the menu stays true to its roots because I was not alive during then nor have I lived in the US, but what I can say is that I left the restaurant a little more fat and not at all angry.
The humorously-named Fats and Angry has two locations, in Ari and Charoen Krung. Both share the same aesthetics so those of you who want pictures for the 'Gram have no reason to worry. Though the Ari location is bigger, the owner advised me to visit their place at Charoen Krung, which was less busy. It's something to consider if you want a full-fledged photoshoot without having to wait your turn.
The menu is very straightforward. It sticks to the staple of burgers, milkshakes and fries and doesn't try any gimmicks which is a good thing. Most of their cheeseburgers can either be beef or pork depending on what you'd like. I gave their popular California cheeseburger (B190) with beef a try and it's a classic smash burger with a soft, homemade bun with a delicious smashed beef patty and fresh, crunchy lettuce. But what made it stand out was the Fats and Angry sauce, a tastier version of the common burger sauce. I also tried the Texas BBQ cheeseburger (B220) but this time with a pork patty. It seems pretty similar to the first burger but even just the small change of BBQ sauce and the addition of crispy bacon gives it a whole new different flavour and texture. I also had their Fried chicken burger (B180), a great alternative if you want to opt for something that isn't beef or pork and you want to hear a satisfying crunch when chomping down.

It's not a classic diner meal without some fries and a milkshake. You can add a side of fries to the burgers for an additional B50. You can opt for the traditional crinkle fries or go for the curly fries, but my favourite was the smiley fries, which were nice and crispy unlike those who serve it all soggy. They've also got six milkshakes you can pair with your burger all priced at B165. I would have liked the Hazelnut milkshake to have a more prominent hazelnut taste and the Vanilla shake was good, but the standout was no doubt the Chocolate milkshake, which I highly recommend. You can also browse their Combo sets (starting at B300) which gives you a burger, fries and milkshake all in one.
Fats and Angry tries to give guests the most genuine diner experience they can and for the most part, they do succeed. The food is simple yet delicious, the resto's decor transports you to the era of classic diners and their music choice is spot on. You'll be crooned by the smooth baritone of Elvis Presley as you slurp your milkshake. Sure, once in a while you might hear some Queen in there, but I'm not complaining. All in all, you're in for a great meal accompanied by rockin' music with aesthetically dripping photos for your socials at Fats and Angry.
