Grazia’s style director Paula Reed dropped into Frieze last week and what did she wear? Prada monkeys. Obviously. There’s a tip to steal – tucking T-shirts into skirts makes you look more sophisticated. She is also wearing a lot of black, but because she’s whizzed together various textures, you don’t really notice, which is sneaky. This outfit also proves that one great hit of striking colour adds bite. Additional bonus points for gorgeously simple hair and makeup. They don’t call her a “style director” for nowt. For many attendees, Frieze and its arty bash spin-offs are a chance to hunt the latest hot artists. For The Briefing, it’s a chance to think a lot about hair. From left to right: Aaron Johnson has gone dirty blond with matching moustache. Jury’s out; Gillian Wearing is promoting very visible hair clips. Really?; Philippa Perry is trailblazing the bowl cut with a grey over-wash. Discuss. Photograph: Guardian
Yes, yes, this is a bit last season The Killing isn’t it? It’s a comparison not lost on designer Joe Casely-Hayford, who is a fan of the Danish show. This jumper, called Mr Lund after lead character Sarah Lund, is part of his fourth menswear collection for John Lewis and is knitted by craftspeople in the Donegal mountains, don’t you know. Prediction: smaller sizes likely to be popular with women. Cosy.

The statement or cocktail trouser, call it what you will, is a trend that just keeps evolving. These beauties are the fruits of a clothing collaboration between London-based artist Daniel Silver and Swedish label Acne. Silver’s love of African pattern and colour – he spent time in South Africa and Zimbabwe as a child – is brilliantly translated into shirts, miniskirts and tops. Team these cropped trousers with a tall sandal and an art-scene pose.

The colourful Comme des Garçons wallets and coin purses have been a massive hit. Also available in jolly colours and at a non-bank-breaking cost is this courier bag. It’s cut from thick PVC, is totes waterproof, fastens with Velcro and has an adjustable strap. Plus it’s unfussy, modern and will bring a bright hit to a subdued winter coat.
