The fashion briefing – in pictures

Fashion briefing: E Tautz
If you want to blow serious bucks on a suit then this is the week to do it. Matches, in its posh Marylebone residence, is hosting an event that sees designers and tailors from Lanvin, E Tautz (pictured), A Sauvage, Rake and Hardy Amies standing by to measure and advise. Throughout the week there are workshops (how to tie a bow tie, a monogramming service) alongside cocktail evenings and whisky tastings. Tomorrow is E Tautz day, where dapper designer Patrick Grant is on hand.

Menswear alert
Carolyn Massey has designed a rather nice collection of menswear for Asos. Highlights include a two-tone herringbone blazer, this T-shirt and a knitted cardigan-jacket. Right now, Massey’s style tip is to go for wider leg trousers: “There’s something really refreshing and rather luxurious about the fabric involved after years of painful skinny jeans everywhere.”

Get happy
If you’re in London’s Regent Street this week, watch out for Random Acts of Happiness, from gifts of flowers or sweets to a hug. It’s part of Uniqlo’s 10th anniversary in the capital. A revamped store re-opens on Thursday with limited product at discounted prices. So merino knits, such as this one, will go for a tenner. Go on, smile.

Fashion briefing: Simone Rocha shoes
Shoe of the week
Rising star Simone Rocha makes these mega red shoes. She designs for Topshop, Lady Gaga wears her clothes and her SS12 show was a triumph. It featured see-through plastic with antique embroideries, neat shirts or jackets with sheer sleeves and a version of the signature shoes, in green, with a tall heel.

The great fashion race
There’s a new Frow challenge in town. Who can get the clothes from the catwalk and on to their backs the quickest? Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld and Anna Dello Russo are the leading ladies playing the game. How long did it take them to get their hands on the SS12 collections?
