If Ryan Gosling wasn’t an actor he could have been a professional suit-wearer. Look how well he models Gucci Look 38 from spring/summer 2012, which was worn on the catwalk with a dickie bow and loafers, no socks. Gosling was an early adopter of the double-breasted trend on the red carpet, plus he wore a burgundy suit for Cannes – very this autumn. He can do casual too. For the MTV movie awards he went for a black vest, black biker jacket and trousers – his hair glossed to perfection, his stubble just so – manly. Photograph: Charles Sykes/AP
Adam Kimmel x Carhartt is workwear done in luxe fabrics. It’s the American designer’s first collaboration – he shows his main line to acclaim in Paris. This dalliance has produced the first blazer to bear the Carhartt badge, a brand that has been around since 1889. The jacket comes with two buttons and is crafted in an overdyed blue twill. The collection also features a moleskin hooded coat and flannel check shirts. Cool Americana. Very rugged.

You can always rely on Gap to deliver when it comes to a new style of slacks. So, bonjour the new cropped flare pant. That’s a mouthful isn’t it? Anyway, with this new pair of trousers you can totally vibe on the whole Céline thing but have enough money left for a mini-break or, more sensibly, a pair of stilettos and some socks – very pre-fall. Don’t worry if you don’t know what pre-fall means, you have it on good authority that it’s fabulous. Note: for men Gap has just delivered a fine mustard chino.

Jonathan Saunders is the man of the hour. Michelle Obama wears him. He’s just done some delicious stationery for Smythson, coming in October. And the icing on the cake? Menswear. Saunders showed six exits (that’s outfits in fashion speak) for men during his autumn show, which was generally regarded as the highlight collection of London fashion week. The Briefing almost fell off the front row when this slice of double knitwear dreaminess appeared. Other highs include two-tone jackets and graphic patterns. Do not miss. matchesfashion.com

If you’ve been hankering after a bit of old-school raver meets PE teacher gym kit, then this Louise Gray whistle necklace is just the ticket. Gray used the same whistles for earrings during her autumn/winter 2011 show, which was a wondrous riot of polka dots, textures and balloon headdresses. The pendant is part of an 11-piece debut jewellery collection, which also features a smile bell necklace that rings and goggly eye earrings. Gray recommends piling it all on together. Obvs.
