Much excitement ricocheted around the fashion desk when Anna Wintour graced the Pedro Almodóvar bash at the Museum of Modern Art in New York last week wearing Chanel. First, because the house classic skirt suit is actually a rarer red carpet sighting than you might actually think and, second, just how many pairs of these beige shoes does she own? She’s always in them. Or a mule-variation of. Also, if you have time to spare, look up the picture of Wintour flanked by Almodóvar and Karl Lagerfeld. They’re in shades, she’s not. It’s funny. What has our style heroine been up to now, other than still sporting the best hair in town? Wearing winter white that’s what. Doesn’t she look majestic? She has previously nailed the White Witch look on film but what this outfit says aside from “big dry cleaning bill”, is that white is a viable alternative to black for the forthcoming party season. If ever there was a time when you might go for it in a white tux then surely it’s at a Christmas do? Discuss. Photograph: Newspix
Tweed jackets are officially cool, so all wearers can bask in their own sartorial glory. Meanwhile Hudson shoes has decided if it’s good enough for your back, it’s good enough for your feet and teamed up with Dashing Tweeds on brogues and boots featuring Harris Tweed. A spokesperson says they’re not totally waterproof, but this tweed features lanolin so moderate amounts of water should roll off. Phew.

Men in stars? Well it’s good enough for Alexa Chung, who was recently snapped in Chinti and Parker’s pricy cashmere star knit. Common Sons is a new British label specialising in grandad-inspired jumpers. Think vintage. Think Christmas jumper. These man-stars may come into their own around the luncheon table on 25 December.
