This mustard coat by Dorothy Perkins, which has gone snooker loopy with its palette this season, is a far cry from the sensible camel being hyped this time last year. And if ever there was a price point to dabble in riotously hued coats then this is surely it. Note: sometimes the buttons on cheaper coats let them down – just swap them for something a bit posher.

The leather glove – driving or biker – has been much discussed on the fashion desk. These red ones with gold zips are part of Kurt Geiger’s new accessories range, launching at a new London boutique on Grafton Street. Other glove action: a black biker mitten that comes with a detachable zip, allowing it to turn into a fingerless wonder. Similarly, totes, messenger bags and clutches are festooned with compartments and zip closures to make them size adaptable.

MM6 Maison Martin Margiela has teamed up with New York brand Opening Ceremony, which also collaborates with Chloë Sevigny, to create a new capsule collection. With a “three-in-one concept” – clearly multitasking fashion is having a moment, see Kurt Geiger above – you will find a leather jacket that contains a nylon lining that unfastens to become an entirely separate jacket, or ankle boots with detachable leg bits. Special mention to this lovely red tunic-dress and the model’s marvelously intense hairdo.

Has the conversation about skirt splits happened yet? OK, well, to be clear, they’re in. If anyone was going to make one that works, then it was obviously going to be Diane von Furstenberg, who knows a thing or seven about making clothes for women that are both wearable and sexy. This smashing electric pink skirt is called Anita, and sits just below the knee. It also comes in less adventurous black – and either way, it’s a total winner.
