It might be difficult to imagine Zoe Saldana looking anything other than gorgeous but this outfit is still worthy of praise. Taken from Prabal Gurung’s first Resort collection – Gurung shows in New York, has collaborated with J Crew and has dressed Michelle Obama and Oprah Winfrey – it’s a beautiful, yet edgy, mix of bold, clashing colour with a fabulous textured sleeve. Note: texture is big for the new season. Wearing bright hues can cause shoe dilemmas but Saldana swerves any issues by going for sandals that are barely there. Ditto the McQueen clutch. A triumph. Last week’s glove chat revolved around driving v biker. This week, the spotlight is firmly on Muji’s new invention: Touchscreen Gloves. These come with a thumb and forefinger that boasts an interwoven conductive material so you can type through the wool. They’ve passed the official fashion-desk text/tweet test plus they come in lovely autumnal hues. Mega handy.

This mini envelope bag by designer Sophie Hulme has just enough of a whiff of a school satchel, which has clearly undergone a cocktail-minimalist remix, to make it an ideal new (work) term buy. Hulme set up her label in autumn 2008 and specialises in simple bag styles with metal hardware alongside clothing, which for autumn features a particularly cool black collarless overcoat. She launched in Selfridges this month and has done a diffusion line for Asos. Each comes with a specially designed charm; this season it’s a padlock and key.

Desert boots plus thick white soles equals two season shoe-trends married into one. This pair are taken from the new Limited Collection for Men by M&S. This capsule range is the high-street giant’s take on a more catwalk and street-style angle for men. So this is where it will include a skinny suit, a double-breasted military coat, and so on. The knitwear is particularly nice – a burgundy twisted yarn crew for example – but it should ditch the rock T-shirts pronto.

Live within travelling distance of London and consider yourself a fan of unglossed fashion? Then visit the Gimpel Fils gallery, which from Thursday is exhibiting the early work of the late great photographer Corinne Day. The show is curated by her husband and agent and will include a lot of Kate Moss (including that pic with the fairy lights) and models wearing fabulous clothes but looking as if they’re not that fussed. Marvellous. gimpelfils.com Photograph: Corinne Day/Corinne Day
