The Fashion Briefing: Camilla Belle
Look of the week
As we all scramble to get our coats and gloves out of mothballs, ladies with Hollywood tendencies, such as actor Camilla Belle, reach for frocks from spring 2010. Ms Belle plumped for one from Alexander McQueen’s most recent Parisian outing, which was celebrated for its otherworldly futuristic vibe complete with reptilian-style prints. And what a triumph this dress is, with its fabulous puff of a skirt complete with a beautiful trim of gems snaking down the sleeve. Belle’s minimalist accessorising approach also gets full marks: loving the simple bangle, stark earrings and understated nude platform heels.

The Fashion Briefing: Gucci bag
Splurge
In what is evidently an animal-tastic edition of the Briefing, this Gucci handbag, crafted from a coated canvas with leather trim and festooned with rather animated elephants, is a fun piece of baggage to get your mitts on. Part of Gucci’s new collection for Unicef, which also includes purses, key charms, and a book, Snowman in Africa, by Vanity Fair’s fashion and style director, Michael Roberts.

The Fashion Briefing: Jimmy Choo for H&M
Join the queue
. . . and strap on the body armour. This Saturday sees the launch of the Jimmy Choo collection for H&M, which is likely to cause disaster-movie-style scenes – the crumbling bridges replaced by women clutching thin-heeled party shoes and screaming. If you go, you’ll be allocated a shopping time limit, so once inside you’ll need a plan. The Briefing suggests heading for either these disco-cage heels, the thigh boots (£179.99) or the grey suede one-shoulder dress (£149). The men’s shoes are really nice too.

The Fashion Briefing: Topman sweatshirt
Men's buy of the week
Calling all menfolk. Gather round and give us a roar. There, don’t you feel so much more macho now? But if that didn’t do the job, why not try this lion- print top? Grey marl sweat with short sleeves – like a sort of wintery T-shirt – ideal worn with everything from slacks to jeans. Well done, Topman.

The Fashion Briefing: YSL cocktail ring
Women's buy of the week
Oh how a flashy cocktail ring can ramp up an old party frock, eh? This one, crafted from gold metal and aventurine (a type of quartz), is from Yves Saint Laurent’s latest cruise jewellery collection, which despite the designer name tag is reasonably priced. Other pieces in this range are cuffs, earrings and a fabulous sea-charm necklace. Prices go up to £920.
