The fashion briefing

The fashion briefing: Chloe Sevigny in a lace dress
Look of the week
This summer, the little white lace dress looks set to be a bit of a hit. It has a post-royal wedding thing going on, plus high-end labels such as Dolce & Gabbana put them on their spring runways. Of course, Chloë Sevigny does fashion but very much to the beat of her own fabulous drum. Here, she’s given the delicate lace a big old kick up the butt via some stomping lace-up platforms. As she chose this look for a Chanel bash, her handbag and lipstick were naturally by the French house. Extra points awarded for the severe hair and cross-body bag styling – much cooler than a boring old necklace.

The fashion briefing: Browns skirt
Skirt of the week
If you’re not into dresses, news that many designers are thinking separates next season will be most welcome. Get into the spirit now with this knee-length stretch pencil skirt by Club Monaco. It’s minimalist and would look divine with a silk blouse.

The fashion briefing: Gregory Peck in To Kill a Mockingbird
Glass action
Ironic glasses have reached their peak. Now it’s time to don a pair of Gregory Peck specs, as designed by Oliver Peoples in honour of the forthcoming 50th anniversary of the movie version of To Kill a Mockingbird, which starred Peck. The actor’s son Anthony had kept the original pair of frames his father wore as Atticus Finch and, as a fan of the glasses brand, asked the company to create a modern take on the look. They come in four classy shades and add an instant lick of courtroom braininess.

The fashion briefing: Hudson sandals
Grown-man shoes
It is beyond irritating to see grown men tripping around in flip flops. If you want to get your feet out, invest in some decent sandals, instead. These Hudson ones are affordable and smart. Camper always do good sandals, or blow the budget on some super sleek Balenciagas.
