This particular slot loves any excuse to wax lyrical about the greatness of Erdem gowns, so praise be for Kate Bosworth’s latest red-carpet turn. This embroidered dress with gorgeous lace hem, taken from spring/summer 2011, is brilliantly pretty without being in any way sickly. Of late, Bosworth has been on fire with her fashion choices – a recent neon Proenza Schouler was another major hit. Meanwhile, her glossy yet barely there makeup and some sparkly shoe action dust this look with classy old-school glamour. Photograph: Lionel Hahn/Abaca USA
Long-sleeved dress part 3. In ongoing efforts to showcase thoughtful winter dresses on this page, we give thanks to Cos for this swingy-skirted, classic black number. It’s not exactly screaming with festive frivolity, but it’s got wardrobe longevity instead. It also acts as a blank canvas for jewels/shoes/gold things/faux-fur jackets etc. In other news: the latest Cos store has just opened in Brighton.

Despite fashion’s headline trend being minimalism, 2010 is likely to be remembered as a year of celebrities trying to out-crazy each other via the medium of fashion. This platform peep-toe by Office in burgundy velvet is proper “jazz hands”, no? It also boasts 70s sofa-style fringing trim and curtainesque tassel. Now, you can’t say “more is more” than that.

Christopher Kane women’s clothes have become highly covetable and his catwalk shows greatly celebrated. Until a recent (and sellout) experiment with a T-shirt line, men were sadly a Kane-free zone. But next month, a mini collection launches, featuring cashmere knits, leather and T-shirts. Inspired by space, landscapes and explosions, print is integral to the mix – as are leather shorts. It’s not cheap but it’s totally fabulous.

Long johns. Probably from Uniqlo’s HEATTECH – in caps to shout out the WARMTH factor – collection of goods that warm the cockles and various other parts of the body to boot. The leggings/long johns have already passed rigorous testing by The Briefing. Conclusion: they’re a brilliant pyjama layer. Bonus points for opting for the camouflage print. Socks, hats, polos and T-shirts are also available in the range. Race you.
