Look of the week: Fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth is this week’s style hero for umpteen reasons. First she’s proof that a fiftysomething who is comfortable in her own skin can easily give stylish twentysomethings a run for their money – as she did at the launch of cult magazine Lula’s pop-up shop in Harvey Nichols last week. Von Unwerth has nailed the difficult jeans-to-turn-up ratio and she’s right on the money with her bright, pointed court shoes. The printed shirt is bold and upbeat and not at all prissy. The glowing skin and wide grin suggest she’s pretty pleased with her look – and rightly so. But we can stretch to this utterly-boring-but-fabulous Eco Age by Made bag. Tuck your arm under its bottom and carry it like a tiger cub for extra fashion kudos. Know that it is made by disadvantaged communities in Nairobi and is a byproduct of the food industry for extra ethical kudos. £150, Eco Age by Made, from Whistles, whistles.co.uk Photograph: PRJoin the queue: Denim-ophiles – this is a collaboration that you need to know about. Made in Heaven – purveyors of denim faded to nostalgic perfection, have combined with J Crew – purveyors of preppy US fashion – to come up with this pair of classic tomboy cropped jeans. They are available on jcrew.com now and will be on netaporter.com within days. Don’t dither. London boy cropped jeans, £196, by MiH for J Crew, from netaporter.com Photograph: Pixelate Imaging/PR
Suitcase winner: Playsuits are rapidly becoming to the weekend what the summer dress has become to the office: a hot weather essential. They’re perfect pre- and post-beach, and preserve your dignity on a picnic rug. This one has animal print on it, making it roaringly good (boom boom). Coloured chinos are an excellent look for summer and will immediately fashion-up your wardrobe for under £100. These come in all manner of safer colours too, if lime fills you with fear.
