From ballet to jazz, welcome to the latest hotly tipped dance-inspired flat shoe, which is already a Madonna favourite - she recently sported a two-tone monochrome pair. These bubblegum-bright numbers by Labour of Love, an independent label launched in 2003 by designer Francesca Forcolini, are ideal for tripping lightly about your business.

Dorothy Perkins pearls, £7
Wrap yourselves with pearls in a preparatory salute to the forthcoming Coco Avant Chanel film, starring Audrey Tautou. At just £7 a pop, why not buy three of these strings, layer them, and kapow - it's the Luella catwalk look. Immediate update to all outfits and therefore Mark Heyes from GMTV would be proud.

Ted Baker check shirt, £75
This cracker is summery enough for now - shove up those sleeves, open up that collar. Then come September, button it all back up again and sling on a cardigan. No need to surf the sale rail either, as this arrives new on 2 August.

More fashion code to decipher this week. According to the Galaxy dress designer, this magenta creation is the latest in multi-tasking clothing: it can be worn as a top (tucked in), a tunic (with leggings) or solo, as an evening dress. Not convinced?
It doesn't matter, this dress is beautifully designed, with pleat detailing and gold zip snaking down the back - and for a Mouret, it's relatively well-priced.

Swapping her usual tailored mannish blazer for this spangly golden jacket shows Stella McCartney - the Briefing's vegetarian idol - is not afraid to deviate from a well-established uniform. To balance, she has kept the rest of her look pared back with a classic combo of white T-shirt and jeans. As for accessories, the monochrome chain-handle bag is held by her side, in the au courant dismissive manner. Photograph: Richard Young/Rex Features
Where to get a maternity little red dress this summer? As of August, Marks & Spencer. This simple day dress, wins points for its big pockets and flexible tie-waist. Elsewhere, a bright blue polka-dot swimsuit, a grey chiffon blouse with cat print and a Beth Ditto-like tunic festooned with gold birds show maternity-style diversity.
