This outfit could easily have ended up looking like a dog’s dinner. There’s the hippy-style head thing – a bit Olsen twins, a bit indie Brit It girl. Then you’ve got gold Lurex, two different widths of stripes, a clingy skirt and a velvet jacket all vying for attention. Luckily, model Chanel Iman is utterly gorgeous. But there are lessons for us civilians too: long skirts are cool; clingy ones are tricky; embellished velvet will now always look a bit Kate Moss for Topshop; and shoe toe-hang is always bad. The Roksanda Ilincic collection for Whistles is one of the most successful high-street/designer collaborations to date. Sadly, it comes to an end this month. Her swan song, a collection of 10 cocktail dresses, is what is known in the biz as going out on a high. See this brilliant goldy-camel, prim but sexy, silk dress. It’s a classy Christmas option and costs several hundred pounds less than a mainline Roksanda. Wear with a slash of red lipstick, some tall classic heels and an espresso martini.

Camper’s collaborations produce interesting results. Belgian-trained designer Veronique Branquinho’s Chelsea boot is, admittedly, of quiet design – just a crepe rubber sole for fanciness – but that’s often welcome in men’s footwear. The shoe brand also opens a new store this week in London’s Covent Garden, which has interiors by Spanish designer Tomás Alonso. Expect the look to be clean and industrial.

Kenzo’s new coffee-table book boasts a wonderful floral cover and is packed with illustrations, catwalk pictures and fold-out/pop-up sections. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the label is holding catwalk shows at the V&A on 12 November, which are free and open to the public. Artistic director Antonio Marras is selecting looks for the shows from the archive. Think glorious prints and textiles.
