Look of the week Paris fashion week is in full flight with shows from YSL, Chanel and Miu Miu all still to come. But Belgian designer Dries Van Noten’s collection (pictured) is already shaping up to be one of the most covetable of the week. His clothes were styled, yes, but they didn’t look as if they were prepped the night before. His models, with their just-left-the-house hair proved mousse is so passe. And the clothes. Oh, the clothes. This coat artfully clashed with a bright floral- printed skirt. Noten always gives good print, and the bright pop of this skirt shows that autumn doesn’t have to be sober. Elsewhere the show featured signature tailoring – from camel jackets to a grey trouser suit – alongside khaki slacks, sweatshirts and maxi-length print skirts. Marvellous. Photograph: GONZALO FUENTES/REUTERSJoin the queue Karl, Karl, Karl, you just know how to treat a Chanel lady, don’t you? Having identified that “all women have cell phones”, Monsieur Lagerfeld has kindly designed a natty new super-cute multi-functional clutch to house such essentials as phone, keys, credit cards etc. Obviously the house’s distinctive quilting finish is used to great effect. Available from May. £500, chanel.com Photograph: PRA finishing touch There is nothing avant-garde or obviously catwalky about this ring by Isabel Marant, a name to drop if you like a side of nonchalant bohemian with your French designer fashion. In a lovely shade of jade, this burnished brass ring is something of an anti-cocktail ring. There’s nothing sparkly or showy about this baby. Wear with everything, from faded denim to smart dresses. £70, net-a-porter.com Photograph: PR
Bag of the week This satchel is so Left Bank. Imagine the male lead in a film in which nothing happens but everything looks wonderful and smoking is obligatory. Clearly, he would have this classic bag and a really nice jumper. This is by APC, one of France’s most consistently brilliant fashion exports, and it could also be adopted by women for an arty Parisian look. £280, apc.fr Photograph: PRThe summer boot Come June, if you don’t have a pair of summer boots, you will officially be sent to style Coventry. This pair from Aldo – which is also available in camel – is ideal, and if anyone dares to question your sanity while wearing them, simply tell them you’re channelling Balenciaga. £90, aldoshoes.com Photograph: PRSpecs appeal Forget fierce; these frames are sharp with a capital S. Sold at the influential Parisian boutique Colette – you can shop online – this angular pair is by Superfuture. The brilliance of these specs is in their combination of a vintage Yves Saint Laurent look – the designer loved a harsh pair of glasses – with something rather modern. Style with a pout, fashion frown or, probably best of all, a nifty raise of the brow. £101.51, colette.fr Photograph: PR
