fashion briefing 110411: Outfit of the week Dree Hemingway
Outfit of the week
Red-carpet minimalism isn’t easy to pull off. So well done Ms Dree Hemingway in floor-length Calvin Klein, as seen at a New York fundraiser last week. The glow of the orangey pink works well against her skin, while the centre-parted hair brings a sort-of relaxed easiness to the mix. Adding a second colour, this time a brighter orange animal skin bag, breaks up the gown’s colour block. Note: this halter neckline is not shoulder-bag-handle-friendly, so do like Dree and hug bags to the side of the body.

fashion briefing 110411: Pineapple dress from Oliver Bonas
Dress of the week
The fruit trend is in full swing. There are banana earrings, lemons on skirts, apples on trousers and now this: a pineapple dress. So 70s drinks trolley! It comes with a lined skirt, finishes just above the knee and is made from light cotton. It’s a steal at under £50.

fashion briefing 110411: Timberland cycle chino
Cycle chino
This page is usually driven to eyerolling at the mention of fashion items purporting to have additional gimmicks. This week, though, Timberland has evaded the usual pitfalls – making something ugly and pointless – to deliver a biking-friendly chino. The organic cotton slacks have a rubberised shirt gripper to stop your top riding up and reflective piping, which appears once you roll up the legs. It’s also tinkered with the seam positioning and added a zip pocket. Guardian cycling expert approved too.

fashion briefing 110411: Dela shoe Tabitha Simmons Project Ocean
Name to drop
One of the most-asked questions in recent days: what shoes to wear with the new bright trousers/jeans during this tricky weather time? Answer: you need a classic pointed heel in black. This one by Tabitha Simmons, the new shoe name to drop, is ideal, though Topshop’s £60 plain court is a cheaper option. Research now.

fashion briefing 110411: Wellington watch
Wellington watch
As items go, the Wellington boot is a trifle past its fashion date. That, however, does not render it useless, and sometimes one does require practical footwear. Enter the debut rubber boot range by the flip-flop-flogging Havaianas. You can have them in black with yellow, green, patterned or as shown here in splashy pink and tasty turquoise.
