One of menswear’s rising stars is Christopher Shannon whose breed of poppy sportswear has proved a hit both on and off the catwalk. Shannon’s new range for Eastpak (which has previously collaborated with fashion power players, such as Raf Simons) debuted at London fashion week last September and boasts glossy bum bags, rucksacks and weekend bags. Shannon’s designs are both functional and cutting edge with fantastic colour combinations such as grey with turquoise and white. Backpack, £90, by Christopher Shannon for Eastpak, available from 15 February, 0845 6011151, eastpak.com

It is no longer enough to have a bag named after you. No, you need a whole series. Enter the Alexa range by Mulberry, which comes in a handy regular day-size handbag, clutch style and a larger more weekend-friendly version. It’s an inspired move – Ms Chung being the much copied Brit gal style icon and Mulberry the much copied crafter of fine handbags. We particularly like the modern satchel factor and the (detachable) long handle is ideal for the au courant across-the-body styling. Tweed bag, £595, by Mulberry, 020-7491 3900.

One of London fashion week’s most talented designers, Richard Nicoll is set for another sell-out Topshop collection. The eight-piece range comes in a soft colour palette and features high-waist chinos, a jumpsuit and shirt dress. But we’re quite fascinated by the look pictured: a body con dress, which boasts a zip-off top half – that’s fashion multi-tasking for you – styled with a teeny-tiny cropped striped shirt. The latter item should be approached like a cape, think how it might jazz up a plain T-shirt or a bodysuit and it instantly becomes less odd. Dress, £65, and cropped shirt, £35, both by Richard Nicoll for Topshop, available from 18 February, 0845 121 4519.

If the mere sight of a traffic-cone orange mac is making you roll your eyes and curse this page for its bright-coloured audacity, let us quickly say this: it also comes in a less aggressive cobalt blue. This piece of rainwear – it’s water repellent and in store now – ticks off the forthcoming trend for lightweight coats with a technical feel. Plus it features really nice interior piping, deep pockets and is ideal right now layered-up with a sturdy jumper. Coat, £69, by Uniqlo, uniqlo.co.uk

Increasingly all fashionable items appear to need a Christian name, cue the Celia, a lovely new pendant from LK Bennett. With its winning combination of gold chain, glass and resin, it’s an instant way to perk up an old dress or shirt for spring. Other highlights from the new LK collection include neutral silk day dresses, punchy red wedges and snake-print peep toe heels. Pendant, £90, by LK Bennett, available from start of February, 0844 581 5881.
