The fashion briefing

The fashion briefing: Look of the Week: Mark Ronson
Look of the week Unless you’re a professional jet-setting pop star like Mark Ronson wearing Gucci or a glossy catwalk boy model wearing Gucci, white suits are a terrible idea. But never mind that. Have you checked out the man’s polka-dot sneakers? Yes, polka dots. On sneakers. What is not to love? Part of Ronson’s new sneaker collaboration with Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, these can be bought at the designer brand’s pop-up store, which has just opened in London’s Covent Garden. Race you …

The fashion briefing: Splurge shirt dress
Splurge
There is joy to be had in simplicity. Take this linen shirt dress by Graham & Spencer, which will see you through a least two trends without looking like you’ve bothered to think about it. Khaki is a rather “with it” shade right now, plus said dress chimes with the fashionable utility look too. Other factors to consider: it’s a flattering shape, boasts a thin belt for cinching and can be worn solo or with slacks. Yippee.

The fashion briefing: The finishing touch: Astley Clarke earring
The finishing touch
Colour doesn’t have to be displayed in great big dollops. These beaded chandelier earrings by Miguel Ases are a prime example. Just in case you’re challenged, they’re “paradise island ocean blue” and nothing whatsoever to do with a certain political party. The bold should feel free to clash them up a storm with a busy print frock or similar.

Gap continues its successful collaboration with shoe-maker Pierre Hardy this season, with the launch of some fabulously clumpy wedge sandals. But surely these flatter, espradrille denim dudes are the frontrunner for hottest buy this season?

The fashion briefing: Bag of the week
Bag of the week
If you’re looking for a bag to house the essentials – keys, phone, purse, iPod, packet of mints – check out this red leather Kate Sheridan design. Any concerns about getting all your junk in should be banished. Instead adopt the canvas shoulder bag overspill technique. It goes like this: wear small bag securely across body and chuck all other junk into a canvas shopper, which, hopefully, at some point someone else will offer to carry.
