Talking about his latest men’s colour palette for spring/summer 2012, shown in Paris last week, Acne’s Jonny Johansson says: “Black exists as a blank canvas for me . . . and then I layer ochre, rust, nude, a bit of red and green on top just to confuse you.” One thing that is not in any way confusing though is how effortless it looks. The latest Acne collection is old-fashioned coolness with a dollop of 70s and a twist of sports. This outfit has many things to enjoy: a short nippy suede blouson, some peachy slacks, a clutch bag and some quite marvellous sandals. Roll on 2012. Photograph: PR company handout
This look is very Chloë Sevigny in the mini-series Big Love. If you’re never seen it, google her wardrobe forthwith – no woman on telly has ever owned so many long skirts. Probably. But anyway as previously discussed, longer lengths are where it’s at right now. This outfit is part of a new capsule Classics collection from French Connection, also included is a fab tux jacket and some grey slacks, which arrive in stores later this month.

Pleats have replaced ruffles as the dress detail to champion during summer’s garden parties, yacht bashes, weddings and so on and so forth. This chiffon number also ticks the box marked “it’s-a-bit-ballet-inspired-isn’t it?” Plus it’s a bargain, with lovely attention to detail and a flattering shape. Add a tux jacket – perched on your shoulders – for nippy evenings and you’re done.

Any excuse to have Tilda hang out on The Briefing. Just look at her hair. It’s a triumph of marvellousness in bright blond. There is a fashion point to all this ranting too, so hold on to your horses. Pringle of Scotland asked MA students at Central Saint Martins (hotbed of future star designers) to re-imagine Pringle icons: the twinset, the lion and argyle patterns. Swinton is thus sporting a fetching knit designed by Yeori Bae, which also comes in yellow. The designs are wonderful and bold.

Asian label Wooyoungmi has hooked up with sun specs expert Linda Farrow to create two rather fancy styles that appeared on its spring/summer 2012 Parisian runway, often swinging from plaited straps. One style is rectangular and in horn and tortoiseshell. The other is a riff on the Clubmaster, featuring a blend of lime, orange and blue. In other Wooyoungmi news: The Briefing loves the label’s scuba/cycling tops (as seen here) with their flashes of neon and techno look.
