Fashion reached festive fever pitch last week with the British fashion awards and the the Christmas party for the Cricket boutique in Liverpool. Alex Gerrard came out on top up north with a knuckleduster ring, an asymmetric draped black mini dress and ankle boots. But she was totes pipped by designer of the year Ms Phoebe Philo in a spectacular Céline jumpsuit in London. A portion of the fashion desk is utterly jumpsuit-obsessed right now, plus who can argue with a shoulder-perched jacket? Photograph: Gareth Cattermole/Getty Images Europe
Any wannabe belles of the ball itching to make a statement had better take note of Giles’s jewellery. It’s proper perky. Check these spanner earrings festooned with a hunk of Swarovski – they’ll rev any party outfit’s engine in a mere hop skip and a flash. Meanwhile, if you’re after the ultimate ironic office party look then what could be better than a paperclip bracelet? Giles, we salute you.

In the manner of a counselling service for the January blues, here is a 2011 heads-up. There is a new Chanel nail polish. It’s called Pearl Drop and, aside from fantasy fur, it’s the finest and divinest way to channel Snow Queen chic. Inspired by Coco’s love of pearls, the varnish is pure and white in natural daylight and reveals golden reflections under evening light. Stagger.

Lacoste trivia: during the 20s, when René Lacoste was a tennis champion, he was known as “the Crocodile”. Fast-forward to 2010 and a new Legends collaborations project, which includes this brilliant hi-top designed by i-D editor-in-chief Terry Jones. Aside from the marvellous croc-ness of it, green is going to be massive for men next year. The Briefing may go as far as to say it’s the new orange. Wild.

Raoul is the new Carven, which was the new Isabel Marant. Come on, keep up. Created by husband-and-wife team Douglas and Odile Benjamin, the label was originally all about men’s shirting but evolved into womenswear. The look is summed up thus: “wearable minimalism”. Take this cream silk butterfly neck blouse – it’s a wardrobe staple that is fabulously understated with lashings of longevity. Other highlights include jumpsuits, cute high-waisted shorts and pleated dresses. That’s your first spring 2011 purchase done and dusted, then.
