It seemed impossible to like Charlotte Gainsbourg any more than The Briefing already did. But then last week she told this newspaper that she admired Meryl Streep before wearing this rather lovely ensemble to the Balenciaga show in Paris. Look at those sandals. They purr “fashion-show footwear”, don’t they? Then there’s the skirt which is like an animal-print remix of a Breton stripe with poppers at the bottom. The top, meanwhile, has the ideal fashion week air of just-pulled-off-the-chaise about it while the hair – hello, the hair! – is totes heaven. Photograph: Sipa Press / Rex Features/SIPA
There really are myriad things to drink in at a Balenciaga runway happening, the spring/summer 12 collection just shown being no exception: clusters of bracelets festooned around wrists in orange and clear plastic, pointy heels with door-stopper-like details, Darth Vader-style hats. And that’s just the tip of the accessory iceberg. The makeup stood out, in what perhaps will henceforth be known as “sci-fi eye”. Photograph: CATWALKING.COM/CATWALKING.COM
What did you say? Wizard of Oz chic? Sparkly shoes? Yes, Miu Miu, Mrs Prada’s other label, the one she shows in Paris, is about to complete the dreams of so many with this range of glitter courts. They might not come in Dorothy red but they do look smashing in this rosy pink, an electric blue, a splashy gold or a racy fuchsia. The ankle-boot version of these babies, as seen on the label’s catwalk last season have already been a massive fashion-pack hit, so get in quick to avoid the potential bleak disappointment. £370, miumiu.com Photograph: PR
Who’d have thought that an Indian summer would have caused such annoyance among the fashionables? Well, actually, October is jumper season, and they are a big deal this season, especially ones such as this Isabel Marant alpaca Navajo number with its hanging-threads detail. To be clear, hanging threads per se aren’t in fashion but crew knits with a little something extra are. £385, matchesfashion.com Photograph: PR
Before we get started, these Stella McCartney sunglasses come in less wacky hues of white and dusky pink but, frankly, yellow looked more jolly in print. Besides, yellow emerged triumphant during the London shows and this shade looks a bit like Chanel’s primrose nail polish, so you’re referencing two Paris showing labels in one. Bargain. £144, stellamccartney.co.uk Photograph: PR
