A cobalt blue miniskirt is a fairly bold fashion statement. Drew Barrymore (pictured) makes it work more than adequately though, in an outfit that is just the right balance of relaxed and fashiony. From the classic dark glasses and messy undone hair, to the timeless grey suede round-toe pumps, Drew knows that one star item in the sartorial mix is, frankly, quite enough. What is particularly working is the pairing of a tucked-in muted vest with a short-sleeved khaki jackety number. Photograph: James Devaney/WireImage.com
Another week and yet another splash of the fashion desk’s all-time top print. In this latest leopard chapter, let us toast this truly fetching leather Trussardi 1911 iPad cover with the kind of gusto usually reserved for Robert Pattinson’s hairdo. Obviously, if you should find said case too overwhelmingly flashy, it is available in a camouflage print or classic black. Pass the champers etc.

Yes, this is a grey lambswool tank top and it’s quite boring, but you know what? Sometimes fashion is allowed to be a bit boring. It can’t all be catwalk trend central 24/7. Tanks have been grossly overlooked of late and they’re such a useful base layer under a jacket. Right now you want to wear one with a plain shirt, sleeves loosely rolled up. Come autumn proper, they’ll make a great layer under a suit jacket or a jaunty suede blouson jacket (yes, The Briefing has been looking at the Hermès menswear show again).

Satchel obsession continues apace. If you have not been paying attention, here’s the skinny. Bags this season are meant to be plain, stripped back and properly simple. They are also likely to be a trifle satchel-like, which is terribly appropriate for the impending school term, is it not? This version by Littlewoods is cheap, so it’s not exactly top of the quality class. But it has nailed the retro look and therefore produced a flurry of interest at Guardian HQ.

As part of Liberty’s collaboration with shoe genius Manolo Blahnik next month, it invites you to recline on a silk damask love seat in Mr Blahnik’s favourite shades of fuchsia and eau-de-nil green as you slip on his Liberty print shoes. While you’re at it, drink in the scent of his candle, designed with Lyn Harris, or snaffle up some of his specially designed wrapping paper. Mr B has used Liberty fabrics since his first collection more than 30 years ago, so it’s a match made in footwear heaven.
