The fashion briefing

The briefing: Sheikha Mozah
Outfit of the week
There is always a whoop of joy around here when Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser al-Missned, second wife of the Emir of Qatar, is snapped rocking a look. And it’s always very much a “look”. Check out this tuxedo gown by Stéphane Rolland, as worn on a recent visit to Spain. Its head-to-toe creaminess is striking. Then the accessories kick in – the turban, the sunglasses, the clutch, the diamond earrings and the pin on her jacket lapel. It’s a masterclass in glamour.

The briefing: Hobbs Dress
Dress of the week
There are so many things going for this Hobbs silk dress: 1. It’s got gold buttons – no need for jewellery. 2. It’s a bit 1970s. 3. There are sleeves – as discussed before, not that easy to find on high-street dresses. 4. The belt is removable, so you can add your own. 5. A shirt-dress shape is classic and versatile. 6. Wide stripes are so now.

The briefing: Hamnett T-Shirt
Deeply concerned
Katharine Hamnett has always used fashion to raise political awareness and her latest T-shirts, totes and towels are no exception. They are part of Selfridges’ Project Ocean, launching this week. The initiative aims to highlight overfishing and raise money for a Marine Protected Area in the Philippines. The London store will also hold a sea-inspired exhibition, including pieces from Alexander McQueen’s Plato’s Atlantis collection and Philip Treacy’s lobster hat.

The briefing: Yamamoto Adidas hi-top
Just for kicks
With the Yohji Yamamoto retrospective in full swing at the V&A, it seems timely to high-five the collaboration between the Japanese designer and Adidas. To celebrate this decade-long partnership, the Adidas for Yohji Yamamoto special X collection launches next month. These hi-tops are trainer perfection.

The briefing: M&S linen miracle
Look unruffled in summer linen
Linen has a bad reputation, but done right, it can be super-classy. Enter the latest Marks & Spencer development: Linen Miracle. Working with the Florence-based mill Nova Fides the store has created an exclusive fabric that looks like 100% linen but has (invisible) polyester in it. It’s washable, less creasy and easier to iron. Try a grey suit like this for a sleek, modern look.
