The fashion briefing

The fashion briefing: Women
Buy of the week, women: A surprising bangle, £75
OK, so we're as taken aback as anyone that this lovely Aztec bangle has been created by Nicole Richie for her label House of Harlow 1960. But the gold against the green leather is inspired.

Buy of the week, men: Stripy T-shirt, £10
Here's a sneaky peek of the second menswear collection by Giles Deacon for New Look. If this T-shirt doesn't bring the sun out, then, frankly, we give up. The collection launches on 15 July.

Splurge: Whistles double-breasted blazer, £160
The mannish blazer is set to continue its domination of women's fashion next season. With this in mind, we have been weighing up the double-breasted options: this navy version is ringing our fashion bells the loudest so far.

The fashion briefing: Set to fly
Set to fly: Vena Cava khaki Gap dress, £48
We love the simple shape of this dress. Its rash of pattern around the neckline works dressed up or down. It's by Vena Cava (a design duo made up of Lisa Maycock and Sophie Buhai), and is part of the Gap Design Editions collection, which sees emerging American designers reinterpret Gap classics.

Spotted: The David Attenborough Look
Last week, during a stellar Graduate fashion week, Grace Melville of Kingston University showed a knitted dress featuring a cross-stitched image of wildlife icon Sir David Attenborough, which the Briefing found to be really rather jolly. Specialising in knitwear, and inspired by ramblers, among other things, Melville's National Treasures collection also featured dresses and capes with backpacks built into them.

The fashion briefing: Question of the week
Question of the week
Is this timepiece the new ToyWatch? Certainly, in sleek white, it's the very opposite of the flashy electric colours associated with the hit watch. As the mountain of tacky copycat versions of the Toy formula grows, this classic Mondaine could be a timely alternative.
