The fashion briefing

The Briefing: Andre Levon
Spotted: The tent look
André Leon Talley, the American vogue legend, works the panto-come-town-crier look on a New York red carpet. Getting this look on the high street may involve purchasing yards of fabric, and something of a DIY job, so maybe it's best to admire from afar. The briefing did try on an autumn 09 black Cos men's cape last week though. But the jury's still out.

The Briefing: Gap colour-block bikini
Set to fly: Gap's colour-block two-piece bikini
The new beach collection from Gap is top and gets a second delivery tomorrow, with additional colours and new items. Aside from this cheeky number with boyish shorts, we're loving the bright beach bags and a slouchy dress. Don't dilly-dally. £29 or £14.50 if purchased separately, 0800 427789

The Briefing: Hogan's hippie bag
Splurge: Hogan's hippie bag
Bronze! Fringed! Designer! Welcome to exclamation mark Monday. This week we're splurging with a conscience, too. From 13-16 May, as part of Hogan's Best Buddies initiative, a portion of the revenue goes to supporting people with intellectual disabilities. Right on. £700 approx, 020-7245 3663

The Briefing: Monsoon mini-dress

Turning the concept of floral on its head - this is va-va voom with a strong cocktail, rather than pretty country garden and a cuppa. Dress down with flat leather sandals or up with golden high heels. £60, 08448 110068

The Briefing: Shofolk Armstrong boots
Men's buy of the week: Shöfolk Armstrong boots
We love these taupe suede boots from the shoe division of the lo-fi Folk label - whose jolly knitwear, among other things, is always worth a butcher's. Next month, we will be moving on to the label's two-strap scarlet leather Ingmar sandals. £135, 020-7404 6458

The Briefing: Save Anna T-shirt
Question of the week: Where can you buy the cult of Christopher Lee Sauvé Save Anna T-shirt in this country?
Well, from 23 May, fans of La Wintour can snaffle them up from a formerly empty shop at Brent Cross. New retail concern POP UP! plans to reinvent recession-hit shopping centres, filling them with hip, hard-to-find labels for limited periods. Their website pop-store is coming this weekend ...
