The Briefing 280311: Michelle Obama
Look of the week
The clocks are forward and the sun’s been out, which means summer dress season is right around the corner. Michelle Obama has jumped the gun a little: she had to, she was touring Latin America, but she did so skillfully in this grown-up, yet ever-so-slightly nostalgic, Marc by Marc Jacobs number. Hers is fairly pricey, but we can reveal M&S has a very similar look which arrives in store in May.

The Briefing 280311: Sunspel womenswear
Join our club
Sunspel, the label whose pants graced the bottom of Nick Kamen in the classic 1985 Levi launderette TV advert, have this spring launched a range for women that includes skirts with the iconic boxer short waistband, simple boyfriend T-shirts crafted from tissue-weight Egyptian cotton and polo dresses. Since September of last year, the talented JW Anderson, whose collections for men and women were lauded at London fashion week, has been creatively overseeing this brand, first established in 1860, to wondrous effect.

Shoe of the week
Oliver Spencer already runs an eponymous label with a shop on London’s Lambs Conduit Street. Now he’s opening a shoe store down the road. His catwalk shows have proved menswear has evolved, while underlining his broad appeal. The Briefing likes his raspberry chukka boots in suede.
