The farm that has been set on fire by yobs four times in the last week

Yobs in Bolton have set fire to a derelict farm four times in the space of week.

Birtenshaw Farm, in Bromley Cross, has been targeted by youths multiple times in the past week.

The latest incident took place at around 9.45pm on Wednesday (July 22), with thick, billowing clouds of black smoke seen in area.

Local councillor Samantha Connor said that Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been involved and she is hoping to see it cracked down on.

Coun Connor said: "It's been going on for at least a week, residents first mentioned it last Tuesday (July 14).

"The farmhouse is empty, derelict, but they've found it and you know what kids are like, they see everything as an adventure and they've decided to set fire to things. Hopefully the bad weather will put them off now.

"The fire brigade have been down four times, and we've told the local PCSO, so hopefully they'll be involved.

"Not only does it put additional pressure on the emergency service but it's worrying because it's thick, black smoke, which is not good for nearby residents or the kids who are doing it.

"I don't know what's been burned to create that smoke."

In recent years, there have also been a spate of fires at the old Holland Garden Centre in Bromley Cross.

The latest incident took place at around 9.45pm on Wednesday (UGC)

The site is set to be turned into a new Lidl foodstore, 43 retirement apartments, four football pitches and a 91-space commuter car park for Bromley Cross train station.

Coun Connor said that the youths have moved on from that to the boarded up farmhouse.

She added: "They've not set any fires there recently, to be honest I think they ran out of things to burn so they've found a new place to cause mischief now."
