'The fans are probably sick of hearing it' - Jim O'Brien's message to Notts County supporters

Notts County midfielder Jim O’Brien sympathises with Notts County’s long-suffering supporters, and insists it is the players’ responsibility to prove they do care.

The Magpies were jeered off after their 1-0 defeat to 10-man Exeter last weekend and faced accusations from some fans they were not giving it everything.

Boss Neal Ardley assured supporters they were trying as hard as they can to try to save the club’s Football League status, with Notts currently three points adrift of safety.

Jim O'Brien insists Notts County are not 'chucking it in'

O’Brien says he appreciates what the fans are going through in what has been a catastrophic season on and off the pitch.

“It’s hard but we understand it because it’s been a frustrating season for them,” he said.

“I can only imagine what it’s like to watch especially if you get the feeling that the players aren’t trying.

“But we are still in the hunt.  It would be easy for me to sit here and say the same things that have been said before,  but the fans are probably sick of hearing it.

“I am not going to be one of those guys who says the cliches. Fans aren’t daft and it’s up to the players to show them that we care.

“But I can tell you the lads in the dressing room do care.”
