The family-run pub less than two hours from Manchester that’s been named the best in the North West

A family-run inn in Cheshire has been named as one of the best pubs at the National Pub & Bar of the Year Awards.

The Swan, based in Marbury, has won the North West Pub & Bar of the Year accolade at the prestigious awards. It is located just an hour and a half drive away from Manchester.

The 19th-century venue, on Wrenbury Road, has previously been recognised as Cheshire Pub of the Year at the Taste Cheshire Awards 2022 and one of the top 40 Sunday lunches in the UK by Sawdays Guide in 2021.

Speaking about their win, the owners said: “We are over the moon to announce that we have been voted the North West pub & bar of the year at the @pubandbarmag awards in London.

“Huge thanks to our hardworking team and of course to all of our lovely loyal customers for your ongoing support.”

The Swan at Marbury has existed for more than 250 years, with the earliest mention of the venue on record being in 1767 when Thomas Briscall handed the keys over to John Broad Hurst.

The pub was restored and refurbished in 2018 by its current owner Jeremy Brunning. Its food menu boasts the likes of Cornish turbot, spiced cauliflower steak, chicken schnitzel and spiced lamb koftas, while it serves a range of cask ales, craft beers, ports, sherries and dessert wines.
