The Falcons may be the best candidate if the Jags want to trade back in Round 1

With the draft just under 24 hours away, there has been a lot of talk of the Jacksonville Jaguars potentially trading back out of the No. 7 pick being that they are in a bit of an odd spot. Unfortunately, trades sometimes aren’t as easy as it seems, but  there is one team in particular many can sense would be the perfect dance partner for the Jags and that’s the Atlanta Falcons.

As many are aware, current Jags general manager Dave Caldwell previously worked for the Falcons and their current general manager Thomas Dimitroff, and they still are good friends. Currently holding the No. 14 overall pick, word is the Falcons could look to trade up in the top-10 to take a falling pass rusher like Houston defensive tackle Ed Oliver. If the Jags don’t want Oliver for themselves (who they should really consider), the Falcons in all probability are one of the team’s Caldwell was referring to in Monday’s draft luncheon when he stated that they’ve had a “couple discussions” about trading. If that’s the case, of course, a plan is probably already been mapped out.

So what could the Jags get if they swapped first round picks with the Falcons? Well, in looking at the draft value chart, their second-round pick would suffice, and maybe for good measures, they would give the Jags a late rounder, too, like one of their two fifth-round selections. Maybe from that spot the Jags could be lucky enough to get Iowa tight end T.J. Hockenson, which would make for a good opening night to the draft.
