They might have had very little to sing about in another deeply disappointing Six Nations that could get even worse in the autumn with games left against title-chasers England and Ireland.
But the team spirit within the Italian squad is of Grand Slam-winning stuff judging by the social media gathering for skipper Luca Bigi when he celebrated his 29th birthday on Sunday.
The 27-times capped Italy and Zebre hooker received a money can't buy present he couldn't possibly have expected, with the country remaining in the grip of the coronavirus pandemic.
For the Italian Rugby Federation pulled a rabbit out of a hat and got the entire Azzurri squad, still in lockdown due to the Covid-19 crisis, to sing Happy Birthday to their skipper with their efforts uploaded to a split-screen video.
The video Italy put on social media shows Bigi's team-mates chatting away before quickly going to silence when it is noticed he is logging onto the call.
Bigi says 'Buongiorno', clearly believing he is just having a normal conversation.
He is then taken completely by surprise as one by one his team-mates pop up to say 'Tanti auguri', which is an Italian way of saying 'Happy Birthday', before singing it to him.
Bigi's face is a picture, a huge smile appearing upon it throughout.
At the end of it a still shocked Bigi says 'Grazie, grazie, grazie'.
The Italian Rugby Federation tweeted: "A team is together, even - especially - when its members are far away. Wrapped present #Italrugby's surprise to Captain Azzurro Luca #Bigi on his birthday - Yes, he was thrilled, like us."
