The FA Cup reports that won't go down well with Newcastle United fans

The future of this season's FA Cup is in serious jeopardy with no decision over whether it will conclude not expected until next month.

That is according to the Mirror, who report there are major doubts whether this season will finish at all as the competition faces up to its first abandonment since the second world war due to the rise in coronavirus cases in the UK.

FA bosses are keen for this season's competition to conclude given it is down to the last eight and there is talk the final could replace this summer's Community Shield.

There has also been suggestions that the competition can be completed in a mini-tournament but no serious plans have been discussed.

UEFA will meet tomorrow over their plans for the Champions League, Europa League and the European Championships and their decision will have a knock-on effect on the English game.

The English professional game was postponed until April 4 on Friday but there is a very real possibility that the game will be suspended beyond that date.

Newcastle reached the quarter-finals for the first time in 14 years after seeing off Rochdale, Oxford and West Brom and they were due to face reigning champions Manchester City at St James' Park this weekend.
