The FA Community Shield: when is it, how to get tickets and everything else you need to know

This August, Manchester City and Liverpool will contest the traditional 'curtain-raiser' for the 2019-2020 season at Wembley Stadium.

Having spent the past ten months embroiled in one of the most fiercely-contested title challenges in English football history, the two sides will face each other with silverware on the line once again.

Dating back to 2009, Pep Guardiola has only lost 1 of the 13 finals he has contested throughout his managerial career - a Copa Del Rey defeat to Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid.

Date

City vs Liverpool will take place on Sunday, August 4, with kick-off at 3pm.

In line with the history of the final, of course, the game will take place on the weekend before the start of next Premier League season.

Tickets

Tickets will be made available through the club's official website as well as through their Official Matchday Agent SportsEvents365 .

Television Coverage

The game will be broadcast live on BT Sport.

History

Throughout the history of the competition, Manchester City and Liverpool have won a combined 20 Community Shields between them.

Appearing in a total of 11 Community Shield matches, City have finished as runner-up on more occasions than they have been victorious - 6-5.

City's very first Community Shield win came in 1937 with a 2-0 victory over Sunderland that took place at Maine Road. They go into this year's game as the current holders having beaten Chelsea 2-0 last August.

Only twice in the history of the competition has a side who has qualified as First Division runner-up gone on to win the trophy: Arsenal over Manchester United in 1999 and Manchester United over Chelsea in 2010.
