The explanation for the baffling moment Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville walk away from fellow presenter on live TV

Football fans and TV viewers were left very confused when Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville turned and walked away from fellow presenter Kelly Cates after Liverpool's win over Southampton on Saturday.

The ex-footballers turned and took off immediately after being asked a question by their colleague, with cameras showing Cates standing alone in the background as Carragher and Neville carried on with the conversation about Liverpool's important win between themselves.

The sequence, which was planned, was branded a "bizarre" bit of production from Sky Sports and left fans confused.

But Cates has since taken to Twitter to explain the situation and clear up any confusion, confirming it was a planned sequence and the ex-footballers were heading to interview Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl.

The incident came after the trio had watched Liverpool come from behind to earn a vital 3-1 win over the Saints.

They proceeded to interview both managers, with Klopp praising the fighting spirit of his side after the game.
