The expected France winning margin over Scotland and what it means for Wales' Six Nations title hopes

Wales are now relying on Scotland to do them a favour to clinch the Six Nations title.

Gregor Townsend’s side do not have to win in Paris on Saturday night, but avoiding a heavy defeat would be enough to see the trophy in Alun Wyn Jones’ hands rather than those of France captain Charles Ollivon.

It will be a tall order for France to get what they need to knock Wales off the top and that is reflected by the bookmakers’ odds.

After missing out on the Grand Slam with that agonising late Brice Dulin try, Wales did at least come away with a losing bonus point to hold a five-point lead at the top and that makes them 4/7 favourites to be crowned champions.

Meanwhile, France are 6/4 to end their 11-year wait for a title.

In terms of the result on Friday, France are clear favourites to win at 1/6 with Scotland’s odds at a best priced 34/5 and the draw at 50/1.

It will then come down to whether France get the four-try bonus point how many points they win by, and a good indication of that is provided by the handicap market.

With bookies giving 16.5 points to Scotland, it would appear that France are expected to fall short of the 21-point margin they need – although if these odds prove to be on the money it promises to be a nervy night for Wales fans with just one try the difference between the two sides vying for the crown.
