The excruciating Boris Johnson clip in which he says his Brexit deal is ready for the 'popty ping'

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has tried to show off his best Welsh but the result is pretty cringeworthy.

It's not the first time he's shown off his grasp of the Welsh language but this time, it was in an interview with his former staff member Guto Harri.

Mr Harri was interviewing the Prime Minister for a piece being shown on S4C show Byd yn ei Le at 9.30pm on Tuesday.

In it, he told Mr Harri: "What we've got is a fantastic deal, a deal that allows the UK to come out as a whole UK on January 31, we've got a deal ready to go, oven ready. Pop it in the popty ping, as we say and it's done by January 31. Then we're out and we've done it."

As well as being pretty cringeworthy - his use of popty ping, rather than the technically correct meicrodon , will no doubt annoy plenty of Welsh speakers.

In the seven minute interview, he also uses the Welsh for "Get Brexit Done" - "Cyflawni Brexit".

When Mr Harri thanks the Prime Minister for his time, he responds: "os gwelwch" part of the phrase for please "os gwelwch yn dda".

Mr Harri also teaches him two new words - Prif Weinidog, meaning Prime Minister.

Mr Johnson, who had sworn off alcohol saying he wouldn't drink until Brexit was sorted, signs off - "Peint of Gwrw os gwelwch yn dda, diolch yn fawr"
